A matter of choice

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.

“I don’t much care where- ” said Alice.

“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.

“-so long as I get SOMEWHERE,” Alice added as an explanation.

“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”

L. Carroll, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”

What about you? Do you know where you are heading in your professional and personal life? Are you clear about what you want to achieve in 3, 5, 10 years from now? Do you take steps consistently in the direction of your dreams? Or are you drifting somewhere without a purpose, without a goal, letting the current of life take you wherever it goes?

It’s your choice whether to have a plan for your life or not care about having one. It’s your choice whether to take action in the direction of your goals or choose inaction.

People with goals succeed because they know where they are going, and they take consistent actions, no matter what, step by step, towards their goals. They know that they are the authors of their lives. They know that everything that surrounds them was once imagined in the minds of people like them. Their dreams become their goals and action plans. Others look back at their lives with a regretful smile about their dreams, aspirations, great intentions and… long stories about how external circumstances day after day, month after month, year after year prevented them from making their dreams come true. They believe that life happens to them; dreams for them are just some wishful thinking.

And both are right – it all depends on how you choose to see it and what you choose to do about it.

Life is all about making choices – choose wisely.
